Pretty & Protected, a program under Herstory LLC, was born out of a real and personal need for women’s safety, protection, and empowerment: Women, especially Black & Brown women, feel unsafe, unheard, and unsupported. We often find ourselves navigating environments where safety isn’t guaranteed, and resources are either inaccessible, not culturally competent, or not presented in a way that resonates with our lived experiences. Our founder was once one of them, navigating harassment and trauma with no tools, no guidance, and no sisterhood. From that pain, a purpose was born.

While there are traditional self-defense classes and firearms training available, few are designed with cultural awareness, trauma sensitivity, and community healing in mind. Even fewer are led by melanin women for Black and Brown women. What makes Pretty & Protected different is its holistic approach to self-protection. We aren’t just teaching women how to defend themselves physically; we’re creating an entire lifestyle around mental, emotional, and physical preparation.

But what truly sets us apart is our Pretty & Protected Community, an ongoing sisterhood that doesn’t end when a class does. Every participant gains long-term access to our private network of women, team members, and resources. This includes online support, opportunities to attend future events, mental health referrals, and a safe space to continue their empowerment journey. In a world where women are often left to fend for themselves, Pretty & Protected offers a village.
